Exotic Catfish Collectables?
does anyone know where to get Exotic catfish collectables? I found this on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Slavic-Treasures-RE ... .m20.l1116) but i'm really looking more for Oxydoras niger items.

Stuff turns up from time to time and I keep an eye on everything catfishey sold on eBay - you wouldn't believe some of the crap I've collected! I've seen Oxydoras bones for sale, but not much else.

Re: Exotic Catfish Collectables?
I think there are precious few O.Niger collectables, as this isn't the most aesthetically attractive fish (in a broad spectrum appeal) kinda way. Collectables for/of this one would be highly specialized thing. That said you could commission Ian Fuller (Coryman) to do a drawing for you as his stuff is brilliant or ask for a carving of one from, Brian Walsh , (i think) of the Catfish Study Group - these are really cool - check the CSG website (galleries) for examples.
There appear to be a few collectables of cats around - it just depends on what you're after: stamps, cuddly toys, china ornaments etc all show up, but i suspect this differs in various parts of the world

Don't the skull bones of O. niger form what some see as a crucifix? Seems like I came across something to that effect somewhere.

I think you have confused this with ariids, which are known as “crucifix fishes” for this.apistomaster wrote:Don't the skull bones of O. niger form what some see as a crucifix?

Thanks, Silurus, at least I remembered it was a catfish.
Doubt of many have heard of these.

Indeed, however dried up doradid artifacts (which might have been crosses or might just have been dessicated) do turn up from time to time. Next time I see one I will try and remember to post here.Silurus wrote:I think you have confused this with ariids, which are known as “crucifix fishes” for this.apistomaster wrote:Don't the skull bones of O. niger form what some see as a crucifix?
