posting images from a pc, not a fileshare site

Post by Richard B »

Humble apologies - can someone remind me how to do this please - ie placing a picture into a post that is stored on my pc, without having it stored somewhere like photobucket or imageshack etc. I am being lazy, but i've had a long day.........

Thanks in advance,

yawn, zzz , must-stay-awake-to-make-further-posts, yawn again - time for coffee!

It's called hotlinking :).

you have to have a direct link to particular image and just tag it as image on another forum.

this is a direct link to for example picture of mircrosynodontis: http://www.planetcatfish.com/images/ful ... p(1)/2.jpg

to have it you just open this image, click right button of mouse, choose properties and then copy a link.
However a site admin may block hotlinking.

Regards.

Reducing the size can be done in any reasonable photo editing software. If you haven't got one, google for "IrfanView" - it's a really simple photo editor - it hasn't got a lot of features, but it does the basic stuff like resizing (you can even resize ALL images in a directory as a batch), simple colour changes (make it brighter/darker/more or less contrast, gamma adjustment and colour balancing).

If you have the MS Office software, it includes a picture editor that works great when you select "resize". You can even open a picture with Paint and resize it by going to "Image" "Attributes" and using the size that it displays. Only use these tools with a copy of your picture or you will mess up your original and reduce its sharpness. Once you are working with a copy, you can do anything you want and if it messes up, go make another copy to play with and delete the ruined one.

With some practice, you can probably learn to make them better - of course, it can't do magice like you see in some TV/Film scenes where some geek is sitting in front of the TV display, and zoom into a car number plate and they can read the manufacturer of the license plate when you could just barely see that there was a car in the first place - you need a SERIOUS bit of kit to manage that.
