Well L183 is often exported under the name Ancistrus hoplogenys...
I can not tell you if L183 is actually the real Ancistrus hopligenys as both comes from the Rio Negro...
Around here this fish is often refered as L59 because of the error in the Aqualog book

Hi!
Well it really looks like the true L183 but without any catching locality it is really almost impossible to give an accruate ID as there are so many species of Ancistrus having such colour pattern.
Under what name did you buy them?
Cheers
Yann
i bought it for $14.88 Canadian dollars, at a popular aquarium in toronto canada.
it was the only pleco in the tank (with some pike fish)hiding under a driftwood...no label no price...even the staff didn't know it was there!! hehe
btw just to warn some ppl... that picture that you see with my ancis and my clown plec...LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING...the clown is a REALLY aggresive brute and i already moved it into a 29 gal. with my oscar...it tore off fins from the ancis. but will heal soon and i will pamper it hehe...
