Hypostomus sp. “Honeycomb-pleco” (L 037a): Glaser & Glaser,
1995: 22 (photo; “Brazil”).
Hypostomus sp. “Xingu-Hypostomus” (L 161): Glaser &
Glaser, 1995: 63 (photo; “rio Xingu/Brazil”).
Hypostomus sp. Stawikowski, 1989: 458 (“L37”, photo 4; “rio
Araguaia”); Melo et al., 2005: 100-101 (photo; Mato
Grosso, rio da Mortes, tributary of the rio Araguaia);
Stawikowski et al., 2004: 44 (L 37; “Brasilien, Pará, rio
Tocantins, rio Araguaia (nahe Marabá) und Maranhão,
rio Lageado”).
It seems like L161 and L037 are the same species, so L161 needs merging in the Cat-eLog, methinks.

Hi Mats,

..I would not think so. This quote is probably due to one of the infamous mistakes in the Aqualog. Clearly, the "real" L 161 is a member of Ancistomus (or Peckoltia or Hemiancistrus, if you prefer) and has nothing to do with H. flaveolus (check, for example, the original picture by R. Stawikowski here: http://www.l-welse.com/reviewpost/showp ... roduct/175).
Unfortunately, at least in the old editions of the Aqualog, there is a number of missidentified or even completely wrong fish pictured, like in this case. Due to that, I have come to distrust any identification solely based on Aqualog..

Cheers, Sandor

Sandor,

Thanks for checking that up - of course, you are right - I didn't even look at the picture, or I would have been able to tell the difference immediately.
