I'll be visiting Lyme Regis near the end of the year with a suitcase full of Maple Syrup for the expats - I'll have to take orders before I come, tradesies.
Do you think the airport people would notice a baby pleco in my 100ml water?

Lyme Regis????? Any particular reason for the visit? I know that area about as well as a local having spent virtually all my childhood, teen & early adult holidays either there or close by. Boy there have been some changes recently,mostly sea defence measures & a lot of my joyous memories are ever-so-slightly tarnished

Small world! My sister owns a house there on Church St. She's moving back from Managua this week in fact. I haven't been there yet, she used to live in Greenwich. It sounds like the sea wall is going through a rough time. I think she mentioned sink-holes too.She started to learn the carillon bells at the local church there. Can't wait to see that church! It's funny, her house is older than my country!
Do you ever use any of the fossils in your tanks?

I do use some fossils - mostly belemites.

In the churchyard is the grave of Mary Anning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Anning who is regarded as one of the originators of fossil collecting. The cliffs to the east heading towards charmouth have some amazing fossils but i've yet to find my ichthyosaur!!!

The sea can be dramatic round there, coupled with the geology, causing landslides & subsidence. Havaard Stoere visited one time which is in a thread somewhere on PC

I do use some fossils - mostly belemites.

I have ammonite earrings from LR but I'm afraid to use our local fossils because they're in limestone. My area is ordovician (SP?) so lots of squid like critters, and worm things. A fellow at the university (Queens) identified them for me. Many people have found small fish fossils and things that look a bit like triobites (don't know what they're called) but no luck yet for me. No giant fish or critters in this area, Alberta's got them all

The limestone would add to the hardness of my tank and since I'm going to use liquid carbo instead of pop bottle CO2 version, I won't have anything keeping my ph down. Still trying to work out the water chem for the cat tank. Read the KH/GH article and tested but the results are confusing! GH =120, KH 85, so...120 x .056 for dh = 6.72. Ph is still 7 and won't budge without the DIY Co2. I think I may have to collect snow/rainwater to get it down. Maybe next time I'll test the water first and choose the cats second...

Heard you got snow, make a snowman yet? And officially, the groundhog hasn't come out of his hole yet as of 7:22 am. However the Nova Scotia groundhog - Sam- saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. I'm sure everyone there said, "Yeah, no kidding."

Groundhog Day......well for the last 8 years or so every day does feel like Groundhog Day with the exception that I feel older and more grumpy every day

but boy can I relate to the Groundhog Day experience, hell yes.

I LOVE that movie, Bill Murray ftw.....now there's a guy I can relate to.

The choice of guppy is what really makes it the best nickname. Kind of like 'Mukluk' or 'Kumquat', the sound of the word just brings on a smile. The story behind it is the icing on the cake

Hi Richard B,
You'll have to google 'funny words' sometime, I was trying to find out if there was a term for 'words that sound funny' but no luck. Onomatopoeia was close but not was I was looking for. I'll have to make one up. Can't believe there's no word for that.
The funniest word that someone put in their list was 'George W. Bush'. It works, just say that to someone randomly and watch them laugh.
This is a fish forum though.
