new psychedelic fish

Post by L number Banana »

Heard about this guy on the radio last night. Not as weird as the see-through fish but click on the top pic in the article. I'm thinking it should have been called Histiophryne Cowardly - lionicus. Or maybe I'm just tired from work

I was debating which link (BBC or other) to use but I kinda liked the one that showed the 'legs'.

I think your link is better as from it, i understand which type of fish it is - like a frogfish/angler type - the bbc is a nice face shot but not much other info exists at this time.

Hi RichardB,

I think it has just been 'described' officially. On the public radio here, they replayed the first interview from the scientist who found it because his first name choice was kind of uninspiring so the clip was about the official naming of the fish. It was described as a Dave Chihuly fish at one point because it looks so much like one of his glass sculptures. Someone even sent him a vase that matched the fish's colouring perfect. I guess the first name was going to have 'frogfish' in it, kinda boring in comparison. "Chihulianus" would have been fun too but I don't know how that would fare in Latin.

PS have you ever seen the Chihuly chandelier at the V&A museum? I'm so envious of your museums :P
