My new Rhynchodoras woodsi

Managed to find a

Rhynchodoras woodsi

through NHA, and it arrived this afternoon so left work early to collect. Also came with a possible

Doras punctatus

(see post in What's My Catfish).




Will take more pics once it's settled in.

Rhynchodoras

. The mouthparts on the latter genus are like nothing else in the doradidae.

Rhinodoras boehlkei

is the one commonly imported, turns up alongside the other doradid and tends to be exported out of Peru.

My Rhynchodoras came from NHA & was a lone oddity in a tank.I believe it had been there for some time.

I have a feeling i saw this one at the back of one of NHA tanks when i was last there & it intrigued & frustrated me because a) i couldn't see it clearly enough & b) i couldn't therefore identify it properly.

I don't think there'll be a better suggestion than hat from Jools

I sent an image of one of these to Mark Sabaj about a month ago (who is the leading dorad ichthyologist), he confirmed that it was R. boehlkei, and identified it by the high number of lateral scutes (your fish has the same count as mine), and the deep post cleithral process. So Jools is right.
