Re: Scary noise on the Site
gremlins in your computer!
the CPU has been taken over by imps and you ram has turned to goats' head soup.
the only thing you can do now is put the whole thing in a magic circle,
burn all CDroms, make a pyre for the old gods of Chaos,
pray for Baal, dose the cursed machine with gasoline,
toss a zippo to it while singing the Yippy Kay Aye Song by Bruce W and go to the store to buy an uncursed non gremlin-infested machine
if you're not into DIY decursing, I'd suggest you ship it off to Stonehenge; maybe the Arch Druid of Avalon can cleanse it of unwholesome influences
sorry Jools, it couldn't be helped

Re: Scary noise on the Site
looks like your harddrive is going the way of the Dodo, mate
ever heard of a "headcrash"?
that's when the little heads reading the many discs on the harddrive eventually pull on the brakes and shred into the discs, turning a working device with countless data into a useless piece of junk
I'm not kiddin'
it's not a nice thing to happen and usually there's all kinds of signs that it's gonna happen soon.
one of the signs is weird croaking of scratching or buzzing sounds, coming from your computer; especially when large heaps of data have to be processed
the latter happens for example if you surf to a huge website with a lot of data traffic, many links and many connections.
like this site.
if I were you, I'd start making back-ups of files you want to save
right now
and go shop for new hardware, before the old stuff is going down.

Re: Scary noise on the Site
Sidguppy makes a good point, although it could of course be 1001 other things.
One thing to rule out is that it's one of your other devices - something like a "virus" may cause the speaker to make noises, for example. To eliminate that possibility, try unplugging the speakers...

My monitor always warns me when the phone is waking up
Once I managed to pick it up before it rang
