Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
Any Wood Cats that could live with Silurid and/or Clarid cats ranging from 10 inches-3 feet?
Interested because I want to try a large Catfish tank later in my life.

Trachycorystes & Ageneiosus Polystictus both get to about 18". It somewhat depends on what siluriids & Clariids you intend to mix

Re: Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
I would personally NOT mix auchenipterids with large(-r) silurids and/or clarids, except maybe Trachycorystes. All other auchenipterids are far to docile and defenseless and won't stand a chance imo.

By larger, do you mean anything over 2 feet?

Re: Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
Does it have to do with being aggressive, or with the Silurids/Clarids eating the Auchenepterids?Marc van Arc wrote:In silurids and clarids I mean anything over 6"; personally I wouldn't combine them at all btw.AU_Arowana-RG wrote:By larger, do you mean anything over 2 feet?

Re: Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
This has to do with the aggressiveness from larger silurids and certainly clariids towards auchenipterids (and all other quite defenseless species) ime. This may range from constant harrassing to -indeed - trying to eat their victims. Again, not a combi I would advice.... sorry.AU_Arowana-RG wrote:Does it have to do with being aggressive, or with the Silurids/Clarids eating the Auchenepterids?

What sort of harassing? And any experiences with this combo that any would like to share?

Re: Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
I'm guessing Marc is simply stating that Auchenipterids are not suited companions to Silurids/Clarids due to their differences in nature - both Silurids/Clarids (especially Clarids) can be aggressive/gluttonous feeders, and Auchnipterids, even some of the larger ones, won't necessarily fight for their share of the food, so will end up going hungry.

Re: Auchenipterids with Silurids and Clarids
It's not only with regard to feeding, but also with regard to aggressive behaviour which will eventually end up in the death of the auchenipterids. Again, this is no combination ime.Martin S wrote:I'm guessing Marc is simply stating that Auchenipterids are not suited companions to Silurids/Clarids due to their differences in nature - both Silurids/Clarids (especially Clarids) can be aggressive/gluttonous feeders, and Auchnipterids, even some of the larger ones, won't necessarily fight for their share of the food, so will end up going hungry.
However, if you think it may work then go ahead and see for yourself. Perhaps your experiences will differ from mine; I hope so. Never too old to learn.
