endangered status

Something to think about ... I wonder if it would be possible to add endangered status to the Cat-elog?

It brings the status of endangered cats to the reader's attention, so they are aware.

I know the information exists in fishbase, but you can safely assume most readers will not follow the link.

This is a good idea and it has been discussed before. Part of the problem is that there is just too little information on catfish populations. The other problem is that while a fish may be endangered in one habitat, it may be thriving in another. That said, I am all for it if Jools can find a way to do it.

You could presumably do what Fishbase does, and import from IUCN?

The IUCN listings are by no means complete or even particularly accurate, but it shouldn't be hard to extract the relevant data automatically.

What fishbase did was import the data as at 2006. The IUCN doesn't have the facility (AFAIK) to access it's database, online, and return the status of the species. I could get the data from fishbase, with variable reliability, and just display it on the page.
