Books on auchenipterids

I have been looking to replace the Catfishes of the World set I sold to HH a few years ago, and came across the ring bound version of Volume 3 this morning and managed to pick it up for <£20 delivered. Are there any other books or literature on aucheipterids out there that is available?
One a side note, it looks like I may have a new woodcat coming today - i spoke with my LFS who had been to NHA yesterday and seen the fish that NHA could not identify other than being an auchenipterid, and so, as they have a delivery from them today, have asked to add it on. I'll drop by and take a look over the weekend and if it's something suitable, it will definitely be coming home with me! All they said was it had white spots, and was about 3"TL - my first thought was

, but if Neils couldn't ID it then maybe it's something else. Will get some pics up as soon as i can.

Can't help on the book front, but if it's ACTUALLY T. galaxias, it's not going to look like what the wholesalers USUALLY sell as T. galaxias, as you know.

Regretfully there's no such thing as a book solely on auchenipterids and I doubt there ever will be - unless we write it ourselves(*). Contrary to for instance loricariids and corys, auchenipterids aren't interesting enough commercially I reckon, which would imply small numbers and high prices.
Dr. Ferraris once had the idea of writing a book solely on auchenipterids, but he abandoned it for some (the above?) reason.
I have obtained some PDF's on auchenipterids; if you want some pls PM your email address and I'll send them.

Wrt your new fish: pls post. I'm very curious. I'll be off line from Saturday afternoon till Sunday evening; after that I'll be able to see it/them from the very heart of PC and also able to finally see your presents "live" .

I did exactly so on a different subject: Citroen GS cars. Got very frustrated that all Citroen books were about 2CV and DS, so a friend and I decided we'd write a book on our favourite car ourselves. Limited numbers (500 copies), fair price (about 34 euros). The first 180 copies were sold in the very weekend that the book came out (August 2000; on the occasion of the European Citroen GS Rallye). The last copies were sold in 2008(!) for bargain prices (15 euros), because the publisher was fed up with them. Not really a commercial success

Well, at least you took the time and effort, though I suppose you never really did it for the money anyway!

I got a signed copy

years before that, when I was about 15 or so Marc and I also toyed with the idea of writing a book on catfishes

we were soon passed by history when we encountered David Sands' bookseries, the Burgess Atlas, the German Welskunde and some others.

THE problem with a book is the constant hassle with names
every time you think they finally made up their minds about a certain fish, they changed it overnight.

for example back in the days I can still remember Parauchenipterus being called Trachycorystes and the pictures of the fish and all the other info was on the Driftwood Cat, not the Grokefish......

I think if you want to do something with Auchenipterids, set up a blog!
you can change it, like the catelog here, and add breeding pictures and all; keep it flexible

books soon will have their days passed, sad as it may be.
this doesn't go for literature, but it sure is for science.
