L082?
I bought these as L082, but I'm not sure that is correct. Can anyone ID them please? Sorry the pics aren't great but shy new fish and a curved (Trigon) glass don't help!

Re: L082?
Sorry to be difficult, but I think we really need to have a close-up photo of the mouth of the fish (against the glass, preferrably, but catching it and holding it in your hand "tummy up" will also work).

These look at bit like to me, but some more shots will help, particularly of the mouth and the whole fish including the tail.

That was my initial reaction as well, but more definitive shots may prove otherwise.

Re: L082?
It`s likely to be a Hypancistrus contradens or L201.
L82 have a very distinct head shape viewed from above. More photos would be nice just to be sure.

Re: L082?
Thanks guys. I'll try and get some pics of the mouth given the chance, but I don't really want to try and catch them as I'd have to take loads of stuff out of the tank. I can tell you they consume vast amounts of green stuff - algae, courgette, cucumber, etc. I've never seen so much green poo!

Re: L082?
The feeding behaviour, I would say, is different from both Hypancistrus contradens, L201 and L082.

Hi All
Finally managed to catch one of them on the front glass while I had the camera to hand. Hope it's a good enough photo. ID anyone?

Re: L082?
Hi,
one of the genus characteristics of Hypancistrus is the fact that teeth in the lower jaw are considerably longer than in the upper one. This trait is not found in any other known genus of loricariid catfish. Thus, according to your picture, that should be a Hypancistrus.
Cheers, Sandor

Re: L082?
So definitely not L082 then. Interesting too that despite feeding very well they have hardly grown at all and seem to have reached maximum size at around 8cms, unless they are VERY slow growing. Fits quite well with L201.

Most hypancistrus do indeed grow slowly.RickE wrote:So definitely not L082 then. Interesting too that despite feeding very well they have hardly grown at all and seem to have reached maximum size at around 8cms, unless they are VERY slow growing. Fits quite well with L201.
