Is this a R. Beni?
Can anyone help?? I purchased this fish at a pet shop in Arkansas and none of the local shops seem to be able to get any more like this one. He / She is much smaller than the R. Parva I have and just a bit bigger than the Red Whiptails I have. I've owned him for about 6 months and would really like to find 3 - 5 more. This fish has a very long banded thread. I'm thinking maybe R. Beni, but I'm sure there are many of you out there that would know much better than I. I did see some R. Fallax and they seemed to be bigger than him also.

Rineloricaria are VERY difficult to identify (as are many other Loricariinae) for two reasons:
1. Colour varies depending on mood and surroundings.
2. They look pretty much the same all of them, and there are miniscule differences that distinguish one from another - some aren't even visible without cutting the fish into bits.
Having said that, I can't suggest an ID.

Hi,
what's the size of the fish (should be slightly smaller than red whiptails (the real ones not the hybrids) ?!
From the colouration (location and number of stripes,...) this might be a beni but as Mats said there are lots that are very similar.
But the shape looks slightly too elongated in my eyes...

As you can tell, I don't get on here much!! I try, but there always seems to be something else to do. LOL
The fish I have is not as long as my L10A's, but it's thicker in the body. It's very much smaller than the Parva, maybe 1/3 the overall size. the pattern seems to be banded in the coloration, no matter how light or dark it is. I'll have to see if I can grab a tape measure the next time it's near the glass. I've never seen it hanging from the side of the aquarium, where I can get a look at the underside. It's mouth pieces do look like those on the picture you supplied. So far the R. Beni seems to be the closest I can find in pictures that resemble he / she
