From what I understand, L071 (and synonyms) is the name of the fish sold as Peppermint pleco in Australia.
Does anyone have any objection to adding that as a common name?
Would it be "right" to put it as "Peppermint (Australia)" to indicate the region where this name is being used?
Of course, all I have to go by as to the correct ID is a post in the Loricariidae forum.

I don't have a problem with that addition - please go ahead. I'd also suggets not using parenthesis - they're there to indicate language not dialect or geographic usage.
Good question!

Re: Add Peppermint to common names of L071?
I have added it without any note on the location where the name is used. I suppose the ideal situation would be to have a second field in the database with "country", like in Fishbase. But that's a lot of hard work [we can probably set everything to "unknown" or "worldwide" for now, but there are 2000+ species to fill in].
Any thoughts on using <>, {} or []? Of course, that's only meaningful if anyone actually understands that it means "local use".
The third option is to simply add the information directly, e.g. "Peppermint pleco in Australia". But I'm not particularly keen on that idea, as it makes it impossible to machine convert (as it could take many different forms).

I had a look into this and I am wrong, the (sparse) data that I have on local common names lists the county and not the dialect. Leave this with me then and not resolve as I will add the ability to add a country and perform a one off data conversion too.
