New option for "my cats"

Post by drpleco »

Alga and I were talking last night about how the list of "keepers" on any given species' page isn't quickly helpful if one is looking for someone else who is breeding that species. We thought that maybe within "my cats" there could be a checkbox that could be checked if a person has spawned that species. Maybe Next to where we enter in the number of males/females/unsexed fish that we have. Then, if that box is checked an asterisk will show up next to the person's username on the species page. That way, we wouldn't have to click on each user, check how many fish they're keeping, and then PM to ask if they have spawned the fish. It'll make sharing information a lot quicker, we thought.

Does that make sense? It would look something like this:

Males (1) Females (1) Juveniles (10) Unknown (1) Spawning? yes (x) no ( )
___________________________________

(1)drpleco, (2)alga*, (3)etc...

Then I could just click on alga and ask him how he got the fish spawning.

Just a thought. :)

Well, I do not like the "send PM to <someone> to ask how they got the spawn", because that doesn't promoted good knowledge to others.

But recording if someone has spawned a species or not is certainly a good idea.

I suppose you're right for spawning information, but some folks do like to guard secrets from the general public, I suppose.

They probably would not tell you over an email either if they are like that...you have to ply them over beers
A check mark for whether or not a species has been spawned is a good idea though.

I have this planned (and a bit more) along the lines of number of fry and other breeding information. It will take time to add it to the site, and I've been talking about doing it since 2005, but perhaps this year will see it done.

Breeding logs are now implemented, and there is another thread for the "show numbers of female/male/unknown/juveniles", so I'm moving this to resolved.
