After going to the 'View new posts' page and clicking on the red square by the topic line,
instead of going/scrolling to 'first unread post', I get this.......
(note the partial scroll from the top of the page)

Anyone else?

But that is a pretty nee thread, so you probably got to the first post in the list... Otherwise, I'm not at all sure what you are asking...

It doesn't go to new post.

It just 'drops' down from the top of the page a little.

You are right, I just read the "Mr Lee eats his friends" thread, and I know I've read that before. So, yes, something isn't working right here.

where is the view new posts button, that would be great as sometimes it's hard to know what's new when the front page just lists however many.

Just on top of the Identification forum, between “View unanswered posts” and “View active topics”

But it's only visible if you are logged into the forum.

I can see this bug-type thing as well. For instance, if I were to click on a thread that has a new post, it takes me to the top of the page but not actually the top, it's down just far enough that I can't see from "Board Index" up. The page anchor must be stuck a wee bit lower than it was before.

I also noticed that if you click on a link inside someone's post and hit the back button, you no longer go back to that post but go back to the same page at the top (or almost - see above) and then you have to scroll all the way back down to continue reading.

Edit: Just there when I hit submit, I get a nanosecond image of the bottom of the post where my post appears then it flips me back up to the top of the same page.

I noticed this new bug about a week ago.
It is only happening on planetcatfish and not any other forums I frequent.
It is frustating,
In fact, after one makes a post it returns to the top of the page rather than showing my new post at the bottom..

I wanted to post this as well, but LnumberB and Larry already did so.
However, isn't this a different bug from the one mentioned in the title of this thread?

You might be right  . I thought it was a problem of the two things i.e. doesn't go to first unread post AND goes to partial top page.

I'm pretty sure that it is a closely related bug - I don't know for SURE but, I'd guess so. Both are related to "tags" to say where things are within the generated HTML (and about asking the browser to move to a certain place in the page, but I expect that the browser isn't broken, since I haven't had this problem in other forums with similar functionality).

These problems in this thread persist.
In addition to not going to first unread post, the page up/down function doesn't work. I just have to plow my way to the last post by using the page arrows. These problems are unique to only this site so I know it isn't my pc.
May we fix these problems so the site navigation is as it used to be?

I know, it's a real pain but I couldn't do much about it until now as it needed the full development environment to investigate. I started looking at this at around 10am this morning, it's now 15:48 and I have fixed it. It was a horribly obscure little line of JavaScript code in the new "quick find" feature that stuck the cursor in that field automatically. If the field was off the screen (because the anchor link was taking us way down lower) then most browsers will guess that you don't want to type into a field you can't see and reposition back up at the top again. It took me a long time to figure this out as even when I tested it with the form removed, I didn't count on the fact the JS was still running and still mucking it up.

This is now fixed, if it isn't working for you then it's very likely a caching issue. Hard refresh, empty your cache and it should work fine. Once we all agree that's OK, then let's look at the "new posts" original issue as that may be a distinct and separate issue.

It appears to work correctly now. I tried it a couple of times in different topics, and all ended up at the location I expected.

Hi Jools,
Just noticed your fix worked on this part too:
In fact, after one makes a post it returns to the top of the page rather than showing my new post at the bottom..
That part works fine now too.
