Hassar ucayalensis
Hassar ucayalensis
Hi.
I recently took a look at my LFS's orderlist and i saw that he could order a species of Hassar called Hassar ucayalensis. I looked for it in the Cat-eLog but i found nothing, so now i ask you guys for info on the species.
thanks in advance.
this is probably the best forum for us catfish-maniacs on the web!!!

Hi!
Mergus Bd. 5 features the H.ucayalensis (i bought my Doradidae sp. under this name which was how i got in contact with jools and this site...)
Mergus lists it at 25 cm and common Dorad care requirements.
Dont have a scanner but i can try to make a photo with my pencam on monday if you wish.

Hi again
Thanks for the replys.
Silurus-What might differ between the two species H.notospilus and H.ucayalensis, i mean in compability with other fish and so on considering that notospilus only get to about 10cm in size and ucayalensis get as large as 25cm? Do you know if the larger species of Hassar are predatory?
Caol_ila-if you could take a photo that would be great!!!
Thanks in advance, u guys r superb!!!

Hi!
I dont think this fish is a synonym to notospilus...it looks a bit like affinis being darker brown. Mergus says its a peaceful species. And advised tank size is 150 cm for a small group as they likeresting in groups.
Ill get home tomorrow instead and try take the book home as im at my gf.

hmm it seems kind of mixed up with these Hassars...
I just searched the web for info and i saw that among others Scotcat listed both notospilus and orestis as synonyms for eachother?
But it also says that notospilus gets to 7.5cm and orestis 20.5cm?
well, well, i was planning to keep them in my 150g tank so i can just wait and see how big they get

And you believe the Mergus Atlas? These are the guys that labeled Mystus castaneus as Pimelodella steindachneri, a Tandanus as Schilbe marmoratus and a Belodontichthys as Silonia silondia.I dont think this fish is a synonym to notospilus
My info comes from Mark Sabaj. If anybody knows doradids, it's Mark.

As im no professional fish dude i have to rely mostly on books like the mergus. I know they mess things up quite a bit but on the other hand they created a book with >4000 fish listed...and for the Hassar this is the only pic of this fish ive ever seen on web/book. And its listed as a A.Kochetov picture which seem mostly accurate to my judgement. Question is if we are talking about the true H.ucayalensis or the fish looking like the mergus pic being labeled as by exporters...
cheers

Thanks for the help, and for posting the picture!
It looks like the ones in the LFS although they are slightly more snubnosed.
It turns out that i would not be able to buy them anyway since i'm going to move to another town i sweden and i'd rather move as few fish as possible (it's quite far away).
thanks anyway
