My first catfish

Post by krazyGeoff »

I was just looking at some old photos and found a couple of my first catfish.
She outgrew the tank pretty quickly, and was quite fussy about the water conditions........ but hey... we all needed to start somewhere.

Enjoy

You should know better than to keep large cats in small aquariums!

Here's mine in the collecting bucket  It wasn't there for longer than five minutes and poof! a cat appears and goes to sleep..

 Hook, line and sucker.
Yes I am a wimp for a cat of any kind. I also have a 22 year old cat (furry kind) that used to look like yours pictured above. Black, sleek and svelte. Now he looks mighty skinny but is still the respected grand master of the house. He asks and I humbly provide. I guess he would be a billion or so in human years. He's blind mostly and quite deaf but managed to bring me a somewhat squished giant cricket the other day, good kitty. :P Eew, yuck!

The one in the picture is a Norwegian Woodcat, funny how I like other Woodcats too

22 wow :? Yes a billion and 10 I suspect.
Very interesting colours on the Norwegian Woodcat. I have not seen a cat with a coat of those colours before. I had to look twice as I thought it was a possum http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/thr ... z/possums/

Unfortunately Coco (above) was not around for too much longer after this photo was taken..... She had a fatal encounter with a police car :(
However it was almost a funny story, as I had the blue lights streaming out of the garage, and the extractor fans going like crazy, when the police knocked on the door at 5.00am.
I thought that they thought I had a "P" lab or something going on in there, and it was a raid !! But no.

I am pleased that we do not have too many critters here in NZ and very few that can actually harm you.
Apparently the bath makes a great torture chamber for mice. :P

If they didn't like us they wouldn't bring us presents

Speaking of big cats in small aquariums, I take it you have seen this:

Cheers

Yes the woodcat does have those sort of colours. Not quite the eyeballs though
In the winter, she's got backhairs that are just over 5 inches long and hang down each side like an afgan hound. The individual hairs are multicoloured and wavey like a jackrabbit. Everyone thinks she's a huge cat but when they go to pick her up, their hands just keep going until finally they grasp a tiny little cat inside. She was the runt so she doesn't come with papers - these are the big money Norwegians -http://www.tanabru.com/index.html
Unfortunately Coco (above) was not around for too much longer after this photo was taken..... She had a fatal encounter with a police car :(
Hope you gave them a ticket for totally careless driving!

I know the hobbits are harmless but what about the Dragonses?

PS the woodcat's name is Smaug because she hoards things. Car keys, earrings, thumbtacks(!)...

Ooo, Patches looks like she's soft as silk :) Studies say pets make you live longer, you've got it covered twice at least.
Who's in the tank under Queen Patches? Is that a glowlight tetra on the right?

And I was worried you hadn't found another cat after Coco but now I see your house is suitably draped with luxury.

Makes me want to get lids for my tanks, it just looks so natural to have a guard cat on top. DJ-don, I have the same thing with cats drinking the tank water. Good thing the hatchet tank is too high, don't think the cat would like his tongue nibbled.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen is when Coco was sitting on top of another tank, drinking through the 2 inch gap at the top.
I was watching the way her tounge was rolling to pick up the water. I was looking in at the same level as the water, so I could see under the water too.
Suddenly she stopped drinking, and left her tounge fully extended. She lifted her head up and looked at me. Her tounge still out. From the look on her face I could tell she was saying, Shit dad, there are fish in my large heated drinking bowl.
After I stopped laughing I had to pull her tounge to remind her that it was still hanging out. Makes me laugh to this day.

If only they could really talk.

Yes we have 3 indoor cats (Smokey, Rocky and Star) and Winky the outdoor stray.

All your cat pic's are great krazyGeoff, but if i had to choose a favourite it would be Star, that little cat has a real cute but cheeky looking face lol.
Patch and CoCo get on just fine most of the time but every once in a while Patch remind's the dog who is boss and has a habit of looking at her as if to say 'what is this stupid dog going to get up to next'

Hi,
Gus (and Nike) are both Tonkanese, which I understand is a Siamese / Burmese cross.
They are not as "chatty" as a Siamese, and not quite as "clingy" as a Burmese, yet still affectionate.
