No more Facebook
To whom it may concern: I've just deactivated my Facebook account. I got too many annoying requests.
Pls take no offence, it had nothing to do with anyone from PC.
Of course I'll stay in touch with you through this site.

Re: No more Facebook
That's too funny, Marc. I have 127 unanswered invitations on Facebook. I have made an attempt to notify all of those people that I don't do Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, DLink or anything that is considered "social-networking."
Now, when they start a site for "anti-social" networking, give me a shout-out. That, I'll join. lol.
My apologies to anyone I did not respond to. Jools, you may be one. Nothing personal, of course.

I used to be schizophrenic, but we're OK now. At least that's what my dog is always telling me!

Re: No more Facebook
It's a tough balance, once you go on Facebook or any social network. I've gotten some very strange invites. I'm going to go to the "friends and family only" bit.

Re: No more Facebook
I was a bit surprised to read this, cause I never expected Marc to even put up a page....but I understand quitting it completely!
most people I know, know very well that things like facebook, myspace, twitter etc are a virtual cesspool.
you can set up a page on such a site with only the best intentions, but unfortunately there's a huge crowd on the internet for whom John Gabriel's Greater internet Theory is THE most apt & fitting description of their behaviour once they get their arse online
sad to hear it, cause getting a disappointment is always bad. but it's not surprising
I wouldn't even think a second about pulling such a stunt, but then, I'm a professional misanthrope, so I'm not exactly objective on this matter

Re: No more Facebook
I think it's all about using it as a tool rather than it using you as a tool. It requires a degree of discipline to achieve the former for sure. The way some people feel about these things is how a lot of people reacted to email in the beginning.
Also chose one and stick with it, I don't do MySpace or Bebo or anything else as it dilutes your channel. I use facebook for personal social networking in the pure sense and it works well (I also keep Linked In for professional contacts again keeping the two apart and clearly delimited). I just don't have time to call and email everyone that I want to share with, so it's a great tool for that. If like me you need to keep up with literally hundreds of contacts, its a great tool. It might seem I have a lot of them, but I have a way to go before I reach my brothers total of 1047 friends but then again he literally does have that number of contacts to keep in touch with varying from business contacts he meets once a year to someone like me that he shares DNA with.
What I really don't have time for are things like farmville or mafia wars but these are pretty easy to filter out but do put a lot of people off it you don't control it.
It's a personal choice to use or not to use but you certainly don't need to apologise for not being on it!
Interesting discussion folks from a Planet perspective as we're linked into Facebook and so I am interested in everyones views.

Re: No more Facebook
For me, it's mostly family that I seldom see. I get to chat with them more often than I used to. It was a great way to privately distribute baby photos via the private message function when my grand niece was born last week. People around the world got to see her within hours of her birth. These relatives wouldn't know of her existance previously.
It also reminds me of my professional life when we switched from manual drawing to computerised drafting. The computer is merely a tool. You still need to know how to draw.
