Rita rita aggression

Post by retro_gk »

I have two 5" R.rita in a 60"x15"x18" tank with some other (cat)fish. I added another two today, one about 3" and the other 5". There was some biting/jawlocking between the larger new arrival and the earlier fish. Will it lead to anything serious? should I remove any of the fish? The tank has some bogwood/rocks fo shelter...plenty for all the fish I thought.

It's most likely the old fish assering its dominance over the newcomers. To avoid this in the future, rearrange the tank when introducing new fish. This way, the pecking order can be establish with (hopefully) less antagonism.

I did not want to rearrange the tank as it also houses 2 Sperata (aorichthys?) seenghala,a Notopterus chitala,4 Mystus cavasius(?) all of which have their fav. spots and have settled in nicely.
Guess thats another lesson learnt about not messing with tanks that are running well.
