When to remove male Ancistrous

Can anyone tell me when I should remove the male Ancistrous, the eggs hatched over the weekend and I figure I have at least 4 fry possibly upto 10 but they are hard to find as they are hiding in corners of the tank and especially between the heater guard and the heater.

The male has done his job when the fry have left the cave. But there should be no problem keeping the male in there either...

There's no reason to remove the male, or females for that matter.

Obviously, if you move the cave and fry to a small tank, it may help the water quality to move the male back to a larger tank...

And separating male/female may stop overpopulation...

Thanks, I finally extracted the male last night after a 25 minute struggle in a 28 litre tank, next time I am adding an extra cave into the tank waiting until he goes in and then putting my hand over the entrance.........though the female was glad to see him, when he finally stopped sulking she was all over him.

I finally extracted the male last night after a 25 minute struggle in a 28 litre tank,

what works great for me, when they get big enough to sell, you have driftwood all over in the tank right? so you get a big big fine net and you gently get the net in, then you gently lift up, slowly the driftwood, and put the net under, and gently lift the wood up out of the water and the bristlenoses fall in the net, Or container or whatever you want. I use a very fine big net. They never get caught in it. If they do just leave the net in the other shipping container and let them wriggle out.

It's so much easier on them and you then chasing them around for ever.

I got told a slightly different way the other night which is to anticipate where the male plec is going to dash to put in a pint glass with the open end where he can get in, when he goes in you put the net over the glass and lift out, its supposed to work well with corydora's too given that they can get entangled if you use a net.

Yes, a clear container (pint glass, measuring jug or similar) will work great to catch many types of catfish.
