Centromochlus romani have spawned
Either someone has dropped a couple of newborn guppies in my tank, or I've got C. romani babies.

Re: Centromochlus romani have spawned
Ok so do we need to watch out for a mysterious guppy donator?
Good news though
- these do seem to produce for people so clearly a good option for people wanting to have a go at breeding a catfish that is not a cory or plec

Good news though

Absolutely. I can't remember how long I had the two females, but the male's been there since the 22nd of December. I only saw two fry.Martin S wrote:Good to see the new male served his purpose so quickly

Richard: Yes, they seem to be pretty easy to breed and not very particular about the water conditions.

Not a chance - they hide in daylight, and come out at night, and just like the parents, they are hyper-active when they are active, and look dead when they are not active.Carp37 wrote:Great news Mats- any pictures?

Fabulous, Mats! I love it when that happens. New sets of eyes staring back at you and you have to pause and think about how they got there.

Brilliant.
If I get the chance to get any of these in future, I definitely will!

Re: Centromochlus romani have spawned
Well, apparently, so have mine!
My small tank suffers with the sand being cleared from the far end, which i think is just due to the external being a bit more powerful that maybe it could be, but I like it tah way and the fish don't seem bothered.
Anyway, as I do once in a while, I gently push the sand from the heavy end and try and equal it out - whilst doing so, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye and it was a single C.romani fry - TL about 8mm, so of the five I have, the solitary female has obviously been busy at some point
Am not sure if there are any more, and have not seen it since, but it's a god sign and has given me a bit of a boost after my recent tank problems. I was beginning to think I'd lost the knack, but maybe not quite

Re: Centromochlus romani have spawned
Congratulations. I have seen at least 3 in the big tank, and I have another two in a fry-net together with a large number of C. sterbai and a few C. metae. I also have two medium-sized C. metae in the L128 tank - they must be a couple of months or more - I saw one a long time ago, when it was large enough to be visible, but I couldn't tell if it was a fat Ancistrus.
Edit: By the way, if any of mine turn out to be female, you can have another - you already have more males than you need, right?

Yes, I have 4M/1F, so would be good to add another female or two at some point.
Thanks

Re: Centromochlus romani have spawned
I have about 5 fry, now about 15-20mm / 9/16-3/4" TL - they swim around at night just as manic as their parents. Haven't seen any further fry, but they are clearly growing. The "about" bit is because I can never count them, as there is enough hiding spaces and big enough a tank that it's hard to see everything at once [never mind that I have to use a torch/flashlight to spot the fish, and it's hard to light up the whole tank at once].
But they clearly do fairly well. Two are slightly smaller, as those are the ones if fished out of the sump...
