Post by Torb »

I would say, but I'm not a very good expert on these, that they are Rio Orinoco , something like L129 and/or .

Edit: I don't think I can give you any indication of sex...

Cant be sure, but 1,3 and 4 looks like L340 or maybe L129. They are definetely the same species as you bought them together. The fish are not conditioned/mature enough for me to sex them.
How big are they? How long have you had them?

Fish nr. 2 is a different species and must be removed from the group.

Neh, I think they are Brazilian species... 1.3.4 seams to be the same species but can you make some pics from a side view to make it a little easier for us?

I'll get some side view photos of no. 1,3 and 4 later today. Here is no.2

This one is has been in my care for around two years. Total length 10-11cm.
They have only been put together during the photosession, due to the obvious diffrence in coloring. Thats the main reason I wanted a positive ID on them.

No2 I think belongs to the group I call H. sp "Lower Xingu", No1 is L401 and 3-4 could be L333 that have some growth left to do before they get more heavy. When you write the size I suppose you mean TL from nose to the end of the tail so they are still small.

Thanks for all the help guys. And yes Janne 10-11cm is TL:)

Any pointers on what your looking for on these to give a ID?

I'll separate them for now, and get some pictures again when they've grown a bit more.
Here are some photos for a few months back.

L401 have the same stubby type of body as L333 but differ in their pattern and overall colouration, what I call H. sp "Lower Xingu" is a mess of species and so far we have never received any Hypancistrus from "Gurupa" that some states are a collecting point.
