Brief review of Fitor Tanganyika book needed

Post by Silurus »

I am contemplating to order the Fitor coffee-table book on Tanganyika, but before I splash down a chunk of change for it, I would like to know from those already with a copy if there are decent catfish photos in the book.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's this book.

Cíchlids are nice and all, but give me catfish!

I have looked through the whole book but I don't have one here, I don't remember any catfish photos even if I think there are a few... but the book is outstanding when it comes to the quality of the photos and only for that it's worth the money.

Thanks. I managed to find out that there are three catfish species featured in the book, so I ordered a copy before it goes out of print.

I've seen it and leafed through it at Verduijns

it's a wonderful book if you like to see topnotch pictures of Tanganyikan cichlids in the wild; the guy is even better at it than Ad Konmings

unfortunately like ALL authors on Tanganyika with the sole (!) exception of the late Pierre Brichards; the author suffers from a severe form of "cichlid tunnel vision".
it's a common trait, not just in bookwriters or hobbyists on African Riftlake fish.

so far nobody has taken to picking up and carrying the torch of Brichard. and unfortunately he's been gone for quite some time.

Hey,

Sid you may ask Evert van Ammelrooy about his book ;). Not so outstanding photos but he definitely is not only looking at cichlids ;).

It is good to mention that Fitor's book is now 20 euros cheaper :).

Regards.

I have had the book for some time now and would like to report that there are only four pages of catfish photos in it. It's still better than nothing and some of the other fish photos are quite stunning.
