L299?

Post by Suckermouth »

The in the Cat-eLog looks to me like Pseudancistrus nigrescens, and its distribution matches it. I've looked at 30-40 P. nigrescens specimens and they look like the fish pictured to me.

I'd be more confident if I saw more pictures of L299 for comparison, though, but unfortunately that appears to be the only one I can find with a quick google search.

Good spot, Ingo & Hans label it as P. cf. nigrescens in Vol 2. Perhaps someone who can read German could translate why they were not comfortable with a placing it in that species.

Hi,

don´t have my WA2 at work (so can´t translate right now).
But FWIW, in a more recent article (one or two years ago; would have to look that up) Ingo dropped the "cf." for L 299 and termed them P. nigrescens.
So if we trust in Ingo´s judgement, they are indeed the same species.

Anyway, will look into the WA2 later on and let you know about the reasons.

Cheers, Sandor
