Ompok bimaculatus

Post by Shovelnose »

Do all Indian Ompok bimaculatus sport a silvery sheen???? Collected an extremely green specimen a few months ago.

Major: Now what's this... stone, stone, stone, (looks down at his hand) and scissors. Now. Scissors cut everything, don't they?
Sergeant: Not stone, sir.
Major: They're very good scissors!!

Most of the O. bimaculatus I have seen are silvery.

What do you think this is HH??? It does have a humeral spot but havent paid attention to the caudal yet. Collected from a slow moving part of the river.

I know the pics dont do much justice to the beauty of this fish. Sorta toxic green. Thought something was wrong with him / her when we collected him but it turned put to be his pattern. Fantastic patterns. Two were collected and one of 'em ended up with me. He s been getting his fins frayed by his tankmates too much for my comfort now.

Never kept a Wallago before but arent they known to have an extremely nasty temperament???? This one s rather docile. He s at the receiving end all the time.

Doesnt look like there' s a spot on the caudal peduncle.

Ompok malabaricus is brown and has more anal-fin rays than O. bimaculatus (which tends to be silvery). I can't remember the differences in counts offhand.
