Re: Brachyrhamdia sp 3
I'm not an expert, but I have seen the fish in person and it looked quite a bit different at least in terms of pattern. I didn't think had much in the way of black pigmentation?

Hi Jools
The fish in the catelog for heteropleura is a juvenile from what I can make out. I'll be honest, I haven't seen adult heteropleura but the markings on the dorsal fin of the sp. 3 seem to tie in. Perhaps Ingo will know as he caught heteropleura on one of his trips.

The view from Germany is that these are two different species.

Re: Brachyrhamdia sp 3
I agree
for example the shape of the adipose is different and the sp 3 has larger eyes
now eyes don't get larger in comparison with the rest of the head once a fish grows up; quite the reverse
if the heteropleura would be a juvenile sp 3, we would have a first case where the eyes grow faster than the rest of the head when maturing.
