The body and head shape is not correct for C. concolor. I would go with a variant of C. aeneus. - Frank

Having looked closely at all the image, I think that they are.
1. C. cervinus
2. C. sp. C141
3. Could be either C. robustus or C. sp. C49
4. C. aeneus type venezuelanus. I don't think it's C. concolor, the head shape is to pointed, it should be short and round, also the body should be a lot deeper.

maybe concolor, definitely not venezuelanus. Venezuelanus don't have a darker streak above the eye (concolor do, but it's only visible when they are pale). And venezuelanus have an orange spot on the "shoulder" which this fish is missing.

C. delphax?

#1 - It looks similar to C. cervinus, but it's supposed to be from Peru, and Rio Guapore is on the north-eastern border of Bolivia and Brazil, which is quite some distance from Peru.

#2 I'll add as C141.

#3 & #4 - it would be good if you lot could AGREE on ONE species... Or agree that it's "not any of the current Cat-eLog species".

No 3 could also be C. delfax, but I would not be so bold as to say it definitely was without having collection location information.

No 4 may be concolor, but if it is it is a very young one.

So, I'm still not sure what to do with these - it seems like there are lots of different suggestions, but not a lot of agreement... I don't quite think the "concolor" is actually C. concolor, as it's got the wrong nose shape...

I really would like to add these pictures. But I also don't want to cause further confusion...

I think Mats you are looking for a steer. I'd like to put #4 in as a stressed C. concolor juvenile please. People that know a lot more than me about have posted different things, but I'm going to play the "my database" card. :-) Also, the other picture from Mark shows an equally washed out specimen that I don't think is a great choice for #1 despite being a great pic (but of a not very great specimen).

I think there are two varieties of imported but let's not get muddled in that right now.

On #3, I'd be inclined to put it in . It doesn't appear to have the absence of pigmentation horizontal lines of other suggested species. Let these forever now be known as Jools' go faster cory stripes! ;-)

Jools,

Thanks for the "steering". I will add as you suggest - we can always move them around later... ;)

Adding pictures is GENERALLY easy when the pictures are correctly labeled and/or you know the species yourself. But when they are not matching what is in the Cat-eLog under that name, you want advice. When you then get three or four different suggestions from some of the world experts, it's not quite so easy...

I'd back up Jools (I have to support my own suggestions, don't I? )

I am pretty sure that no, 4 is a (young) C. concolor. And my delphax for no. 3 was based on the even distribution of the spots on the sides, which the other suggested species don't have.
Cheers,
Tina
