Hello from Australia

Post by after »

Hi all,
Just joined up, been lurking about for a while.
I got myself a 4ft tank about a month ago after getting very quickly addicted.
Currently in there I have 5 Danios, 2 tetras, 4 common BN, 1 Peppermint BN and today I got a Whiptail catfish and a Pictus. Next week I am thinking of going back and getting the Striped Talking Catfish they had too!

I was either going to turn the tank into a Native Aus fish tank, or catfish, and have ended up with catfish. I am just fascinated by them!

I love that this site goes a lot deeper into the world of catfish, to the more scientific side. I am also a mad gardener and am studying for a science degree, and have a fascination and addiction to taxonomy (mainly the plant world and 'algal' world to date, but am finding the same addiction in fish too)

I look forward to becoming more addicted to catfish and learning more about them!

Thanks
Fiona

He he, yeah I know, I read they eat anything that fits in their mouth. If the Danios go missing its not so bad... So far he has spent the day hiding in a little cave and darting out every now and then, usually when the Danios go by... I think he has his eye on them!

It's more likely to go for the danios at night.

Welcome to Planet Catfish Fiona.

The pictus would perhaps prefer to be in a small group rather than a lone individual. A striped talking cat is also an opportunistic consumer of small fish at night......
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

Yeah I am heading back to get another one next week. I couldn't afford more than one at a time! I will get at least 2. I just need to work out what other catfish I want in the tank before I get more than 2. I don't want to run out of room!

As long as they don't eat my Bristlenose or each other I am not too fussed about the Danios. They were only really there to cycle the tank, although I am kind of attached to them, if I can catch them I will put them into the little 22L I have, but if not, thats ok.
