Is there a Sera fish food expert in the house?

Hi guys! I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction.

I have taken a recent interest in Sera's fish foods, and would like to experiment with them. However, I have never seen a manufacturer, or a product line (of ANY TYPE) that is as difficult to check out, locate, study, and purchase -- as the line of Sera foods.

I can find plenty of websites that have SOME information regarding these foods. And I can find sites that have a FEW of these foods for sale. But I'm astonished at how difficult it is to find a place that offers comprehensive information about these foods, and/or is selling the entire line of foods, (or at least MOST of them).

Some sites offer a few foods, but no ingredient lists. Other sites offer a few foods that are different from their competitor, but not the ones that I would like to buy. I can find a long list of foods on some Sera (European) sites, but in that case, no ingredient lists are offered, and as is often the case, they're not selling them from those sites. Argggh!!!

IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A U.S.A. WEBSITE THAT IS SELLING NEARLY ALL OF THE SERA FOODS, would you please provide some direction? If so, I'll be eternally grateful.

i buy most of my tabs from sera. in the petshop or at fish-selling-sessions...

i use:
* sera O-nip® FD-mix
* sera Plankton Tabs
* sera viformo
* sera Spirulina Tabs
and catfish chips (with a high wood content)

I mostly trade in fish for the Sera food at LFSs. The fish seem to notice the catfish chips more than other wafer-type foods. If not, I order from Drs Foster & Smith. It's a relatively new line for them. Ken's Food is also good: the Veggie sticks and flakes are made from real vegetables; earthworm sticks, etc.

Hi! The Sera food that I HAVE purchased thus far, was purchased here, and they do list the ingredients, so I give them credit for that. I was disappointed, though, because F & S offers less than half the Sera foods that are available. Cheers!

Could you give a bit of qualification, please? The Sera Catfish Chips, (with wood), are what first interested me in the Sera line of foods. But about the OTHER FOODS that you've listed...
... I see that you keep a tremendous variety of cats, including Syndontis and others. Could you tell me which of those Sera products you use for ANCISTRUS?

Also, you said, "...and OF COURSE, Discus granulat..." I would not have thought of using this product. Do you use THIS ONE for Ancistrus? And if so, is it especially important, in your opinion?

JBL Novo Pleco XL [1] is what all my Ancistrus are fed. They get a few other things (not really FOR them, but they are greedy eaters).

I'm sure Sera makes good products too.

I feed my corys and such with Tetra Discus/Prima/Colour Bits (same product, different names in different places) - or Aqua One Discus granules when I get those. Sera does a similar (I think it's called Sera Vipan, but I don't get Sera around here).

[1] XL is larger size, I don't necessarily say this is better - but it's either about half a dozen small ones or two larger tablets. Easier to put two large ones in than several small. If you have smaller numbers/size fish.

Hi Amanda,

That's a good idea, and I have a lot of "credit" at my L.F.S. from the fish that I've taken there. But they haven't picked up on the Sera foods yet -- maybe in time. As I was saying to another poster, F & S has a somewhat limited selection of Sera foods; perhaps because Sera foods are new to them, as you pointed out. (I also wanted to try OTHER Sera foods, for species other than my cats. I would prefer to buy the Sera foods from ONE place, as opposed to THREE, if that's possible.) I think I'll call F & S, and ask if they have intentions of offering additional Sera foods in the future. If not, that other site might be a winner, as mentioned above. Be well, Amanda!
