Rio Arapuins correct cory

Post by sosbanfach »

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I have kept a number of corys over the last 5 years but now I really need some expert advice.
I am in the process of setting up a Rio Arapuins biotope and needed to know what corys would be found amongst the tree roots and sand of the flooded forest in this area, I'm aiming for a true biotope which will be entered into a competition next year once all is settle down in the 260 ltr tank.
I spoke to Heiko Bleher via email on Saturday and he helped guide me in regards to tank décor and water parameters and area specific wild discus.
Now I need help with the choice of cory and where else better than this site to get this info from.

Thanks for all help given,

Brian

Did you mean Rio Aripuana?

Here's a link to the Cat-eLog search results by distribution for Rio Aripuana: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/se ... results=50

Possibly: Rio Arapiuns

This is a tributary to Rio Tapajos, according to Wikipedia (in Portuguese, it doesn't appear to be mentioned in the English version). It is not a river we have listed in the Cat-eLog body-of-water table.

We do have Rio Tapajos, and these are the Callichthyidae from that river: Search result (only two species, one of which is undescribed).

It would surprise me tremendously if there wasn't a cory in that river, but unfortunately, a lot of location data is less than stellar, so it's often hard to fill in the tables to indicate where the fish comes from in enough detail to make these things useful.

I have had a Rio Tapajos tank, and yes, hardly any corydoras from there is known

But personally, I think this is due to the lack of export stations in Santarem. The known Corydoras resembles C schwartzii, and then many people will not bother about taking them to the far away export station. I would assume there are many more species of Corydoras there, perhaps these all resemble known species?
