What do Sturisomatichthys leightoni eggs look like?
Last December i purchased 5 TR Sturisomatichthys leightoni from Mark D. I lost one but the other 4 have been doing fine in their own 20 gal. tank. I just went out to my fish space to feed the tanks and I have two of them on the bottom glass right up front on what looks like a bunch of greenish eggs? I am about to try and get pics- my bro is here and is a photog.
Anyhow, what should their eggs look like?

Re: What do Sturisomatichthys leightoni eggs look like?
Hi,
they look like what has become known as "LG4" (Loricarrinen-Gattung 4; Loricariinae Genus 4) over here (due to the terminology in Catfish Atlas 1), a member of a likely new genus of loricarniinae from the Pantanal. Also occasionally called Sturisomatichthys "foerschi", but shows some traits untypical for Sturisomatichthys.
They are also known for laying green eggs, which would be otherwise unknown for Sturisomatichthys.
Clearly, they are not Sturisomatichthys leightoni.
Hope that helps,
Cheers, Sandor

Re: What do Sturisomatichthys leightoni eggs look like?
Clearly if the ScotCat pic is accurate, then I do not have that fish. My eggs are very tiny and many are green although not all of them are. However, I am confused as to what I do have since so far there are two different opionions above. I am happy to have anybody else chime in to see if I can get it figured out. I have emailed Mark a link to this thread and hopefully he will give me some feedback as well.
What I do know is once again I have gotten a surprise spawn and am tickled no matter what the fish eventually prove to be. Gotta love green eggs and no ham

Re: What do Sturisomatichthys leightoni eggs look like?
Hi,
Cheers, Sandor
..well, not necessarily. It might well turn out that "LG4" is identical to R. parva. But since I have not accurate (and trustworthy - see the discussion here: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =3&t=30398) data on R. parva, I personally prefer to stick to LG4 instead of being too hasty in declaring ID only having to revert it once the real R. parva shows up. Since I don´t know on what characteristics Raph´s ID is based, I also cannot judge how it fits into my knowledge of "the species known as LG4".However, I am confused as to what I do have since so far there are two different opionions above.
Cheers, Sandor

HI!!
You can pretty much trust Raph for his id's on Loricariini as he certainly is the leading icthyologist nowadays regadring this subfamily...
anyway that is what I would do!!...
Cheers

Hi Yann,
..just to clarify:
I did not mean to distrust him. But without knowing what the ID is based on, I cannot compare it to what is known as LG4..
Cheers, Sandor

Re: What do Sturisomatichthys leightoni eggs look like?
Just an update. the following morning All but one egg was not in sight, nor were the parents. Either they ate the eggs or else moved them someplace I can't see eggs or fish. Only time will tell. I wish I knew what had triggered them

Got more eggs- none are green and this time they are on the side glass behind the sponge filter. many fewer as well. We shall see what develops.
