Something Wrong With One of My Cory Tank !!!

Post by bunthid tumnontigoon »

Hello! Again Everyone :)

Can someone help?

One of my Cory Tank had seriously bad thing happen, but I couldn't find out what happen.

I put a group of my Corydoras in one of my 10 gallon tank for keep them to be ready for breeding in the future. I have been kept them for over half year, and never have anything wrong with them and also the water in 10 gallon tank. They got fatter and fatter the day by day until a couple week ago. I felt like I really want them to be happier by bought a new power filter for 20 gallons tank hanging behind this 10 gallon tank and also a new power head for 10 gallons tank to make this 10 gallon more clearer water and had water wave as same as the real river flow to make them more happier. But, after I put a new power filter and power head for a week, almost all of them died day by day until I HAD TO move the rest of them to another tank. I don't really know what happen. Can someone have any idea what wrong with my 10 gallon tank? I had check water in this 10 gallons tank, but everything is fine. NO Ammonia, NO Nitrite, or NO Nitrate, so I don't know what I should do if it will happen again to my other tanks.

Oh...at the first time when everything was fine. I used a medium sponge filter with a under gravel filter and just a little decoration of a silk plant and a ceramic wood. That was it. I watched all the decorations and changed the water every 2 weeks 30 to 40 percent. The most was not over a month, and never had anything happened to my cute Cory until I was set up a power filter and power head.
First time, I thought the water got a little hot, so make them died because usually this 10 gallons tank, the temperature was about 75 F, but when summer comes, this 10 gallons tank went up a little bit higher to 80 F. But, after I made the temperature lower, it was still happen them.

Should Be a new filter and a new power head that made the water got bad bacteria in the water or made water to become poisonous water ?

Or, another Cory that I put one extra in this 10 gallons tank as well, and tried to make this guy getting fatter as same as his buddy. But, before I put a new guy in 10 gallons tank, he was Ok from my big tank.

Or, when the water get hotter from normal, and I put some new equipments in should make good water to become bad water by create bad bacteria or poisonous water in the tank.

Please! help. If someone can help. It will be greatly appreciated very much. I don't really want it will happen again to my next tank.

Oh! Before they were dead, they were breath so hard as same as something was wrong in the water, or they need lots of air. But I don't think because of lacking air in the water, It was set upped with lots of equipments to make lots of air. I changed water to made it colder, but it still happened to my Cory, so I don't really know what I should do. Please! help.

Thank you very much;
Bunthid or Max :)

a couple of things spring to mind that need clarification - did the old filters get removed & directly replaced by the new filters? if so were the new filters matured (or out of the box).

The mechanical filtration such as powerheads can additionally heat the water (as it seems you have found) & the warmer water doesn't hold oxygen as well, so i would always increase oxygenation when powerheads are added.

You say there was no nitrate which is surely not right - most tanks will have a small amount registering even with great water management - was it not possible to discern a reading or was there a reading that was negligible?

If any or a combo of these things were not as they should be it could impact in a smaller aquaria but these are not neccessarily the root cause of what has happened.

Perhaps the change of filters stressed them a little & allowed some latent infection to take hold that was dormant in the tank previously?

Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!
