Two males, I think. I'm not entirely sure, so please don't take my word and go to buy more expensive fish before someone else has at least offered the same opinion.

Since this is not about identifying the species, I'll move it to the Loricariidae section.

Edit: I also deleted the post with the same picture posted again, as it didn't add any further information. If you have different pictures of the same fish that you feel can be useful, please feel free to post.

You maybe could have left the topic ;)
These are not L240, it looks like a Pseudacanthicus species and probably one of these or , I think the latter fits best special if they was imported as L240.

Ah, ok, very good point. But the original question certainly wasn't about the ID!

And I presume that the basis of L097 vs L282 is based on geography - in which case we have to rely on the fact that L240 comes from roughly the same area as L282. If the shop, wholesaler or exporter has just sold the fish as "this looks like L240, let's label it L240" [perhaps because they KNOW that L240 is a fish that looks like similar, and just look at L240, without comparing with other variants before deciding what to call it], then it may be either - I'm not saying it's NOT L282, just pointing out that the "if it's mislabeled, we don't know WHERE the label went wrong".

The argument for L282 is that L282 also supposedly comes from Venezuela (so likely exported from Colombia), where L097 originates i Rio Tapajos, Brazil.

Pseudacanthicus for sure. And think L97. Don't know how it is at your place, but where I'm from, L282 is rarely imported. Actually never seen one!

I think those two are males. But give them some food. Specially the first one is very thin!!!

I have not got any experience with this species but like to point out something I can see.

The first fish looks to have a thinner pectorial fin and the second one a much more thicker and has thicker odonthodes on the fin. So maybe it could be a pair?
Futhermore they both show odonthodes growth on the tail but that could be related to the species.
Every great achievement begins with a dream ;-)
