New info on species profile, Corydoras condiscipulus

Post by mona o »

Hello

I have bred a sp. of Corydoras where the info on the sp. profile says "Breeding; Unreported". Profile: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=471
At the moment I have about 70 juveniles of C. condiscipulus, and they are 4 months old (hatched in April). I can add some info and pictures if you like, but mainly I just wanted to add the information that it has been bred under aquarium conditions.

My original group of 9 adults are wild caught and I bought them late in the year 2008. When they spawned this spring, it was the first time.

Did you "do" anything to make them spawn?

Photos would be nice - send them to Jools (webmaster at planetcatfish dot com).

Something slightly different from a normal water change was done, yes. Not much, but it did the trick. I just added peat in the water barrel, then I removed it and filtered away the particles. Then I used that water to make a normal weekly water change. The ph was 7 at the time of spawning, which took place the day after the water change. They did get very active immediately after, and kept it going, but the eggs came the next day.

I'll post some pictures here in this thread tomorrow, I did take a lot of pictures during all stages of development of the fry.

But here's a very rescent one, taken yesterday, showing one of the 4 month old juveniles.

Can I suggest that if you want to post a lot of information and pictures, I would suggest that you start a different thread in the Corydoras section - this thread should disappear[1] when we have added pictures and information to the Cat-eLog.

If there is information in this other thread, we can link to that thread in this thread - that way, the thread is clearly visible and relatively straight forward to find for someone looking for it.

I will add the fact that the species has been bred and that extract of peat was used in the tank.

[1] No, it won't be deleted, it will be moved to "Resolved suggestions and bugs" - but that is not a forum intended for discussing breeding of a fish or some such.

Update reviewed and approved, thanks! A "buy to breeding" article would make a nice CotM article Mona - we're looking for one for September ... ;-)
