smallest tankmate

Post by sequoiacat »

What would be the smallest tankmate to go with a leiarius pictus, SL-24 inches, and be safe from being a meal?

to be as certain as anyone can be, that tankmates are not eaten (or preferably attacked) i would make sure tankmates are half the size of the L.Pictus & if the pictus is not fully grown that tankmates have comparable growth rates.

It goes without saying that this shouldn't be applied to very streamlined tankmates like reedfish or leporinus etc

I am thinking a mature black ghost knife would do alright but Iam also thinking it wont do alright with such a large cat.
black ghost knives max out at 20 inchs but tend to be found in the 12 -18 inch range.

I wouldn't risk it. Pimelodids naturally feed on knifefish in the wild.

Seriously? Knives are one of their prey in the wild...
I would also imagine anything else they wanted to eat, other catfish, ciclids, etc.

But black ghost knives would be to small? would like more than one opinion in either direction to convince me.

Based on Richards estimate they should be good length wise Iam just hoping they aren't to narrow.

They are pretty flat [hence the name].
