Saul,
Nice import. L260 are in demand. Almost like H. zebra these days.
I raise a few but haven't been able to spare any to sell.
I just had my first spawns from my F1 females with wild males but the eggs didn't hatch.
They are only about 26-28 months old at this point and may need another 6 months to become fully mature. I did find one fry in with the adult wild fish just before I combined them with their kids.

Not to step on anyones toes, but the plecs in the box are L411 and not L260. The plec you are holding, I´m not so sure about and need some more pics.

Not at all, I'm happy you've expressed your opinion.
I should be able to provide more pictures in the next couple of days as they are finishing quarantine right now and I do not wish to disturb them, hope you understand.

Cause of how they look, you see brigth and dark on the areas on the body. L260 doesn´t have that.

Its been awhile since I pulled a L260 out of a tank but I'm pretty sure they can get that banding coloration when stressed.

I have always seen the same thing among any L260 I have stressed like right after moving them.
I will need some very persuasive evidence that supports the argument for an L411 ID.

That´s the thing. The plecs looks just like how the L411 looks like. So if you whant to determine if they are L260, you wil have to take pics while they are not stressed.

The L260 has clear white and black stripes with no areas that are brigther and darker.
Look at these pics and you wil see. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 13&t=30959

I had about 9 L411 about 4 years ago and I have thought about this more and I think juvenatus may be right.
My L411 were much larger than any L260 I have seen and had a more bulky build and the frog-like eyes like the fish being held.
It doesn't look as gracile in build as my ~5 year old L260's and my older fish are more cleanly black and white with markings more equal in width whether you consider them to be black on white or white on black is subjective. The L411 were more white with narrower black lines on white but the black lines were more of a very dark gray. At their best they looked like the fish in hand.
Leaving color pattern aside, compare the sizes and shapes of the two different species then think again. There is room for reasonable doubt.
Maybe they are assorted. I ended up with L411 after ordering L66 but only about 3 of the 12 fish I received were L66.

Considering that the two species don't even come from the same river it should be fairly easy to determine what they are, provided you know the collection point. I still say L260... :foggie:

Also, L411 is a larger fish maxing at around 5" while the L260 is around 3.5". Not that that helps.

Hi,
I don't know what the others in the box are - but the plec on this picture is L 260. A little bit stressed, but adult an typical in shape and marking.

I hope that you have some females in the box, this is allways the problem with L 260.

The thing is, on the pics, they look exactly like the L411 (the ones in the box). You say it migth be that they are stressed. Wel, then take a pic while they are not stressed. I have 3 L260s and 2 L411. I know all about the resemblance and how people try to sel L411 as L260. So if some one whant to determine if they´re plecs are L260, you wil have to take pics while they are not stressed and shows it´s real colors.

We had a litle invasion in Norway of plecs that a person sold as L260, but showed to be L411. So we are a bit strict on that plec. I´ve checked with persons i Norway to, and they all say that they think that its a L411.

I find it amusing that for someone that just joined the site and have 3 L260 and maybe a few other plecos speak like an expert!

Joined:Tue Oct 12, 2010 6:18 am, just before I posted my thread and one day after my bday. First I hear from you here in the forum so I don't really know "who" you are.
They are a lot of people here that are experts as they keep and breed fish for years.
You don't have to check anything with nobody in Norway, if they want to express their opinion here they are more then welcome to do so, we do not need messengers in this forum. People have already been kind enough to respond and explain the differences that they see as breeders, importers but you insist and insist in your "I think".

I will take more pictures of my fish and will post some of them here as I already have stated on my above reply.

This is not to offend you but you bring some reality to you, there are no expert we're all still learning.

Saul

First of all, the date that I registered her on this forum has nothing to do with my knowledge or my number of years that I´ve been a aquarist.
Secondly, I do not only have 3 L260, but I also bread them. I used 3 year to find the right plecs.

The thing about the L260 is that I can get a little bit 2 excited around a debate on them. Cause I got hustled once by an importer who sold me L411 as L260. That person sold at least 40 of these to people. No one buys fish of him now. Because of what happened, I started to read on every thing I could find on them and thoroughly studying pics.

That said, I apologies for being to persuaded when I have just seen one pic. I’m just saying that the plecs in the box looks like L411. But as others has said, it might be cause they are stressed.

And I don´t think you try to hustle people either, or else you wouldn´t ask what they think.

Sorry for the long delay.

Please see more pictures of the L260.
I have moved them out of quarantine and they are ready to go.
I made an effort to take as many pictures as I could of them.

Enjoy it

Hi Saul,

I've never seen this color L260, are very nice.
They are special L260 :D , have a lot yellow color in stripes.
My L260 have white stripes. I do not think they are L411.
