I'm not at all convinced they are NOT L260. I don't think they are L411, which is the commonly the "mistaken identity".

Is this fish wild-caught or tank-bred? If it's tank-bred, I hate to say this, but is hybrid an option?

Wow these are very beautiful Hypancistrus! *jealous*

I agree with Mats, maybe even L318.
L318 is the width black stripe of the Monte Dourado pattern (=L411).
But L318 isn't so common as L411...

L318 looks like a good match, except the tail seems a little bit different - more forked on the fish in question than on the picture of L318.

Hi,
sorry to say, but this fish looks like a crossbreed between L 260 and L 66. I have seen such a form in Germany (sold as L 411! btw). They are nice, but please avoid mixing and crossbreeding Hypancistrus. In case of L260 the situation is really bad. I think "real" ones are very rare, since some people have mixed L 260 with L 411.

I think that this is also a good possibility.
And I think not everyone is mixing L260 with L411 on purpose, because a lot of people can't see t difference between them...

However, I agree this could be a hybrid, but I think this is a hybrid with L411 (because of the greyness, instead of yellow/goldyness).
But I'm not a expert with hybrids.

I thought about . But the fish isn't WC. And I'm afraid it is hybrid:(
Hate hybrids!

The seller from German said that it is real L260 and it cost much.

It is difficult to get real L260. It is third time I'm buying something but not L260 that was labeled as L260 by the seller.

I recognise your situation too.
I've bought in Belgium 3 L260, seemed to be L411.
L411 had grey stripes with black stripes and the L260 has more yellowish/goldish stripes. When the L260 are in stress color this makes it more difficult to identify.

But these hybrids aren't ugly!

I’m quite sure I read a thread in here that debated plecs looking exactly just like that one. It was a breeder of L411 that said that once in a while it occurred that some very few wiggles looked like that one. But the colours faded away later.

I must say it is really beautiful!

This ones are fully grown I think, looking at the size at the picture.
Do you know at which size these L411 were in this thread when the colours disappeared? I'm just curious, it's kinda interesting these variants.

I've bred
And I have one fry with similar pattern. But Its size is only 3,5 cm TL. And The size of the fish in the topic is about 6-6,5 cm TL.
L411:

And my L411 fry is more contrast colored then the fish from topic.
I don't think that the fish from topic is L411.
