Leporacanthicus Joselimai L264 Sexing
Hi,
I bought 3 adult L264, I thought I got 2 females and one male.
But now I'm doubting about it.
Maybe someone can help me to sex my 3 L264?
Here are some pics.

Ok, maybe someone else?
I bought these as a trio, 2 females and 1 male.
Fish one is about 2cm longer than the 2 others.
I think fish 1 is the male.

I'm no expert, but I think these are quite tricky unless you are lucky enough to have a distinct male and female side by side to compare. This from the catelog:
I don't think it's going to be possible to tell from your pics, except that fish 3 looks pretty hairy, including the pectorals.Adult males have a much longer and broader head with small odontodes on the sides of head, more odontodes on pectoral fin spine and on the whole body, a bigger dorsal fin and normally a prettier coloration.

Looks lite fish 1 and 3 are females. Fish 2 could be male... but the head seemes a bit short and narrow so it could be a female.
Feed them a few months and see how thir bodyforms and headshape develop...

Thanks Cristoffer!
They were sold as Fish 1 male and fish 2 & 3 female..
Fish 1 is clearly bigger than fish 2 & 3, he or she is the most aggressive and not leaving his/her cave.

They look to be pretty good-size, I would think that you would be able to vent sex them quite easily?

Re: Leporacanthicus Joselimai L264 Sexing
UPDATE!
I catched them out of my tank, and putted them in a separate box.
I'm almost 100% sure I've got 1 male (fish 1) and 2 females (fish 2 &3).
Can somebody confirm this?
Also you can see a picture of fish 2, I think a gravid female!
They are in a tank together with 3 pieces of L029, who has recently spawned!

On the last photo, you can see clearly the wider/broader head of the male (fish 1).

Yeah, I think it's a good photo to sex the fish on!
The male is about 17-18cm TL and the females about 15-16cm TL!
What is now the exact season, Wild catfishes will breed?

Re: Leporacanthicus Joselimai L264 Sexing
That would be the rainy season ;). You can recreate that during any time of changing barometric pressure (and I'm not positive this part is critical) by doing large volume water changes for a few days with cool RO water. I also add some rich foods and sometimes move the decor around to get them out and moving around. Good luck! It may take a few cycles before they figure out what they are wanting to do!

And guess what; the male (fish 1) is blocking the female (fish 2) in his cave!
Let's hope for the best!!

Keep an eye on them. I've had quite a bit of trapping, but I was told that they can be notorious egg eaters, also. Good luck! It's definitely a good sign!
