Hi people

Post by Loric »

Thought I'd better introduce, bit of a south american catfish fan here! collection is growing as my bank balance is shrinking.... I am from the UK and work for an aquatics company and am v. proud of my beloved catfish. They are as follows...
1xPara75 1xZebra46 1xGoldy14 1xScarlet25 1xRedfin blackspot91 1xLeopard114 1xKing Tiger66 1xIrri yellow seam177 1xPeppermint 1xFireglow and, Phew!, 1xGold peckoltiaLDA1
As you can see no chance of breeding here, but all in good time. I am, as always, really pleased to have found such an informative website with others sharing the same enthusiam for these great fish.
:D

Hi S. Allen,

Thanks for the welcome! I don't have an L number for the Fireglow Peckoltia- bit of a mystery! It is about 3", almost black with small but very bright orange spots. It has lovely long fins and tail and is not a 'chunky' shape like my Goldy or Irri yellow seam. Guess I'm going to have to do a bit of research here to get more info! I'm getting to grips with my digital camera so when I get the hang of it I will try and post a pic - its quite a friendly plec and is not camera shy! :)

Hi,

Welcome on board. Is the fireglow the orange spot form of Panaqolus albomaculatus? By all means feel free to post some pics in the "what is" forum.

Eh BTW, if you guys in the UK put at least a county in your profile then we could avoid a lot of the where in the UK kinda stuff.

I shall take my moderator hat off now. :)

Thanks for the great welcome, yeah and sorry about the 'somewhere in the UK thing'! I'm from the rural westcountry, home of many sheep and cows (embarrassed, me?) Thanks also for the Fireglow suggestion, I'm off to search for some pictures of it now. I can't wait to get up and running with my digital camera, there will be much snapping of plecs! :D

Aye, thanks but what I meant was stick it in your profile (click on profile at the top/middle of the page) so that we can see it against ALL your posts (like mine says Bathgate, Scotland).

Look forward to seeing your collection - you'll find a digicam takes practice to get great shots but it's really a great excuse to watch your fish more. If you get some good ones I'd be delighted to add them to the cat-elog if I need pics for whatever species you can get pics of.

Cheers,

Jools

Jools-

Have sorted the profile thing now- was wondering how to do that, so thanks! Would love to contribute to the cat-elog as have started taking pics already, lets hope my pc is not to prehistoric to cope with the software! The pleco that you suggested could be my 'fireglow' does seem very similar in some of the pics- there seem a good few variations in appearance! I'm sure he feels much better to have an identity now too...!! :D

Loric,

Cool, actually we mods often go on about the location as it is very useful but we oftenoverlook the issue is that folks just haven't figured out how to use it. These forums are many peoples first forum and so it takes a little time to get used to "ho we do things around here".

Anyway, as is the same for anyone thinking of sending pictures in, please:

a) send them to [email protected]
b) preferably one species per email
c) Feel free to suggest captions
d) Send them as big as possible - I like to manipulate pictures as best suits what we are tryin to show. I have a 2 gig limit on what I can store between email downloads and I donwload most days. Just send 'em right out of the camera!
e) Lots of different shots are great, dorsal and ventral, views alongside the usual "portrait" view, close-ups of any identification or sexually dimorphic characteristics - old and young fish, whatever.
f) You real name so I can add you to the contributor list.

I can take some time to get them on the site, but I will use them if they are of reasonable quality. Happy snapping!

Cheers,

Jools
