Heard Paulo Petry's informal talk on candiru once (I think it was a rehash of his ASIH talk). The suffering of the patients aside, it was quite entertaining.
My favorite artwork associated with this unfortunate phenomenon is Ray Troll's "Candiru Brew (it'll save your weenie on the Unini)". It shows a guy standing neck deep in a river, and the expression on his face is at the moment the candiru enters his er...ahem.
What a riot.
