Syno ID?

Did you know fantastic help is an anagram of Planet Catfish? This forum is for those of you with pictures of your catfish who are looking for help identifying them. There are many here to help and a firm ID is the first step towards keeping your catfish in the best conditions.

Syno ID?

I picked up this strange Syno looking catfish but I have no idea on the species or if its even really a syno(the only thing that really threw me was that the whiskers werent feathered), its slender, coal black with a few specks of silver on its belly.
The thing swims upside down almost all the time and prefers to stay close to cover.
There were only a few in the tank and they didnt seem to school but did ocassionaly dart at eachother with no damage done.

Just while we are talking about this species, a little while ago I encountered a large one. I think about 30cm SL (it was in Pier Aquatics if anyone else noticed it) at that size it's gonna be a pretty mean fish I think?

Again, I think it boils down to the individual temperament of the fish. I have one that's about 10 cm, residing peacefully with a Liosomadoras morrowi, a couple of Pimelodus blochii, an Ompok bimaculatus, and an Otorongo woodcat.

Hi!

Mine were around 15 cm i think and they were terrors with each other and with any other fish...
About the availability: Ive never seen any more in shops here, but got an email with a private offer of tank raised juveniles from a tankspawn...dunno if hormones were involved.

How do they do with eachother?
Would I need a large group to disperse the aggression?

They are very aggressive to conspecifics, but less so to other fish. You would probably need a large tank (not a large group) to disperse aggression, since these are large-river fish.

They will eat fish small enough to fit their mouths, but not what I would call very predatory.
