Banjo Cat

Post by xander »

I got this guy quite a few years ago. The fish shop got where I got him didn't know the exact kind of banjo cat he is. I am suprised at how ling this guy has been around. I have had him for at least 5 years probably longer. I am justcurious if you might be able to tell me which one this is. http://community.webshots.com/photo/922 ... 0879eBXQUb
I can get more pictures if needed. Just let me know. Thanx Oh and while your there let me know if I am right in assuming that my black bullhead is indeed a Black Bullhead. Thanx again

Your banjo cat is most likely B. amazonicus. Here are some pics of mine.
Can you get a side view shot your bullhead so that we can be sure it's not a brown bullhead?

My bullhead

Post by xander »

I got some new pics of my bullhead. A couple side shots of the whole fish. I can get shots of specific parts as the flash doesn't bother him (or her) too much. http://community.webshots.com/user/xanderphreak
What is it that you are looking for? Is there a way to tell the sex?

Yup. It's a black bullhead alright.
They can usually be sexed by the presence of a prominent genital papilla in the male. Of course, during breeding season, the male will develop expanded cheek muscles which cause the sides of the face to swell up.

Uaru is alone

Post by xander »

He bullied the other uarus I had to death when they were still small. He grew faster then the others being more aggresive. The other two got too small in relation to this guy to stand up to him. He has other South American fish in the tank though. My pleco and the uaru seem to have a relationship. http://community.webshots.com/photo/922 ... 2928JHcYnm
The uaru lets the pleco eat off him. He seems to like it. I also have some pricella tetras and two timminckii plecos and a banjo cat besides the uaru and the L001 pleco. I had some hatchet fish but they died off.

I hate that gravel

Post by xander »

Yes I have. He wedges himself between things instead of burrowing. I have been wanting to change the gravel in that tank for a few years now. I was thinking of taking out the undergravel filters but i love those powerheads. I am not familiar with sand as a substrate but I think i would like to try it. But whenever I get my spare tank set up and ready to go something goes terribly wrong with it. This time it leaked out half the water. (just yeterday. I have clamps holding it together until I can find the feeder fish a new home. Then I'll have to dry it out and reseal it. Seems I've done that before. I don't recal which corner it was though. Maybe I should junk it and get a new one. But when I think of getting a new tank i can't see myslef going for a new 20 long. or 30 or whatever it is I got there. No when I think of a new tank I think of one of those 180 gallon ones with the beveled glass in front. OH to dream. or maybe a 250 hmmm.
