L177 = L18...

Post by MatsP »

According to the paper just published, L18 and L177 are one species - Baryancistrus xanthellus.

How do we deal with images of L177 merging into B. xanthellus... I take it adding L177 to all image captions before moving would be useful?

In the meantime, I'll add some of the data from the paper to the B. xanthellus page...

Yes, I've wondered if L81 is also meant to be in the description. I was planning to send an e-mail to Lucia...

It seems that LDA060 is also B. xanthellus (According to L-welse.com and Ingo's Back to nature L-numbers book)

Hi!!

I am pretty sure we will see similar result once Hypancistrus sp L66 will be described...several L-numbers will be regroup within one species

Cheers

My feeling is that it should be kept separate for now.

Maybe (hopefully?). However, if the paper mentions them, then we go with the paper and the l-numbers mentioned. If it doesn't then it comes down to opinion of how that description fits with the wider group of fishes we know.

So, in summary:
L177 & LDA060 needs merging with B. xanthellus.
L81 stays as it is (perhaps with rename to B. cf. xanthellus). But I would await the reply from Lucia before we change anything.
