Sorry the pictures are so bad, I keep practicing.
This fish has a lovely little face, much like a pictus.
Coloring is subdued bronzy-brown, no obvious
spots or stripes, with a cream
colored belly. It is very sinuous and can curl up
inside a very small space. It is also *very* fast.
Roughly 6.5 inches long right now.

The spines are not particularly poisonous, at least not in the sense they are attached to venom glands. The fish does get rather big (12" or so is fairly accurate).
What do you want to know? I am keeping one at the moment (if you search the forums for "Rhamdia", you can probably find my posts about experiences with it).

Ah -- the saleslady said this fish was called
a "silver catfish" and it never turned up as such
on any search ... although I see now it is one
of the vernacular IDs for rhamdia quelen.
Is it safe to keep corys in the same tank with
this fish at its current size? The data indicates
it prefers to eat fish & insects. What are you
feeding yours?

Sinking pellets, mostly. I've fed it the occasional live feeder (guppies bred expressively for this purpose and hence guaranteed disease-free).
While it is probably safe with corys at this size, it's probably not a good idea to put them together. They grow fairly rapidly, so I wouldn't take the risk of the corys suddenly disappearing one day.
They are fairly docile with similar-sized fishes, though. Mine shares the tank with a Hypostomus punctatus of the same size and they get along famously.
Mine knows when it's being fed, and will cruise around the tank close to feeding time.
