Giraffe but which one?

Post by JamesStuddart »

Any help on this would be good.

I picked this up yesterday, the previous owner was unsure of the species.

But it could be Auchenoglanis wittei or Auchenoglanis acuticeps

this is likely wittei
acuticeps has many more small spots and the contrast between background color and spots color is much more pronounced

also: imports from Lake Albert are rare and imports from the Congo where wittei occurs over a very large area are much more common.

it looks a lot like the usual Auchenoglanis we can find in the shops; almost all of those are wittei

Thanks for info.

I've seen giraffes fir sale before this size, biuger and smaller. But they are normally a dull brown or grey.
Lovely looking fish all the same.
I've not posted on here much before, but locals etc is where I fall down, every time.
Also identifying the less commonly kept fish too. But need another nice cat for the bottom of the tank I think and that's done for now. Maybe. Megalodoras or something :)

Cheers again,
