Rhynchodoras Woodsi headed for my home. Best parameters?

They are currently at 6.8 and being sent to me on Monday. I was hoping for some first hand experience as to whether or not they are sensitive to specific hardness or temperatures. Seller tells me they're eating pellet, which is fantastic. But I've got to feed them life to find out what that bony process on their mouth is for. Anyway, for the four of you that own them, have you met any difficulty keeping this species or is it the usual doradid bliss?

For quite some time mine did very well on tapwater Hardness ~8 DH, pH around neutral. I did not see them the first 60 days, but then I did see them quite regularly

Later I moved them to another tank and a few months later I moved them back. Then I got into problems. I still don't know why, but they al died - together with all other fish in the tank.

What did not realize when I got them, they are not troppical and they died in early summer in a rather warm fishhouse. So temperature might have had an influence, I don't know

Rhynodoras is not the same as RhynCHodoras. a very different headprofile and mouthshape.

those fishes are tropical. they do fine now, we got them for some time from Marc

they're quite shy, but the last time they popped out they were still quite fat

temperature of the tank is about 24-26'C

The R.Woodsi that i've kept did not compete well with more energetic and vigourous feeders so be aware to to give them much feeding competition.

Are these the ones advertised on Aquabid? If they are they are not R.Woodsi - i posted on these a while ago & Silurus said he thought they were somewthing else - i'll see if i can find that thread

Yes, the "Mutante" catfish are what I've purchased. I thought only R.Woodsi possessed the bony protrusion from the mouth? They will likely be given their own tank, so competition will be minimal. I might add my amblydoras nauticus group to theirs, but only if I downsize. Sounds like pretty simple care, like any doradid. I will be setting up vertical driftwood and adding blackworm and tubifex to the tank to see if they use their "teeth" to extract them...

All three species have the modified jaws, these being one of the visible characteristics that will differentiate this genus from others.

I have 2 and they are pretty active once they are settled. They do fine with neutral water.
