In the book Identifying Corydoradinae Catfish Ian A. M. Fuller & Hans-Georg Evers, it states....
Corydoras sp. cf. sychri

Known in the trade as Corydoras sychri 'Long-nose'
Was it a single photo of that was in question?

They were all ID'ed as such by Ian Fuller - reckon however that what was thought to be C097 some time back has now changed. I'll check again.

Jools,

I'm pretty sure the ID is correct here. The question comes from Practical Fishkeepings ID Quiz, and I think it's just a case of mistaken identity.

Google image is not a great way to get CORRECT ID's.

Edit: Searching in google images for C. sychri turns up a load of variations of similar coloured fish. Some are round-nosed, others are long-nosed. One is a long-nosed fish by Ian Fuller in the Cat-eLog! I will dig a bit further, as the explanation by Dave doesn't seem quite right.

Right a few minutes of reading "Identifying Corydoridinae Catfish" and I'm no wiser than before. I can't say the nose is noticably longer on C97 than on C. sychri.

I think we need some help from Mr. Fuller on this one...

The two species are very similar and were, probably still are, regularly confused with each other.

In C. sychri the head shape is longer, with a distinct angular profile from dorsal to top of head above the eye and then down to the snout. Some specimens may even show a curve to the snout, making it more of a saddle shape. C97 has a shorter, straighter profile. The body spotting is more like small blotches rather than defined spots in C. sychri, but in C97 the spots are usually well defined, fewer, and more evenly spaced out.

If you compare the colour patterns to those of C. loretoensis (C. sychri) and C. atropersonatus (C97) may better explain the differences, but always allow for a certain amount of variability.
