Size for Mystus bimaculatus

Post by Martin S »

Is it correct at 1.5"SL?
Someone posted a link on another forum and mentioned the size, saying the ones they had seen were 3-4" - I'm sure I have seen them much larger than 1.5", and Fishbase quotes

Thanks, though I'm sure I've seen these larger than the quoted size? Think I'm going to go off and ask a few keepers and see where we get.

Martin,
I can only assume that the 1.5" was a typo as many of us have kept this fish.

In reply to Martin's PM, the largest ones I have encountered in the wild were about 8 cm SL. I am pretty sure it gets no larger than that.

Thanks all :-BD
[EDIT]I can't help but wonder if I've been confusing this fish with , which gets much larger! I haven't seen either for sale for many years. At least it has allowed us to update the size for the Mystus to something more realistic.[/EDIT]
