corydorus aeneus

Hi.... I'm new to this forum.. but I recently picked up some "orange striped" corys. I Would like to breed them.

I believe i have 1 male and 1 female. They swim with each other all day long he does the T position.. etc. I've tried the trickling water (lower temp)..... I was wondering a few things.....

I've read that the green ones lay eggs on the glass but i've also read the orange/red ones lay in the subtrate.....I've heard conflicting things..... my ph is at about 6.5....

Also, how big do cory's have to be to breed..... i'm cycling a tank now in order to breed these cute little guys. or would i be better to leave them in with my angels and just move the eggs ( if they even lay on the glass ).......

In other words... can i get some tips plz ??

I only found 2 articles on from this site and they were kinda vague..... so any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank in advance :)

Please add your location to your profile.

There are in fact a number of posts in thei forum dealing with exactly what you are after.

It is not really possible to say exactly how big a Cory should be to breed, except to say once they are two thirds grown they should be mature and breedable. Also with C. aeneus it is advisable to have two males to each female.

There are also Corydoras spawning logs on my own site, which cover in detail ther breeding details of some 15 species.

Ok added location :) sorry about that.

I've read a few articles from this site and i've read the posts i can find on the topic. I went to you site and read a lot :).....

I still have yet to find anything of real detail other than "rainy season"..... or even where they tend to spawn. Maybe I'm stupid.. thats probably the case

Any links would be of great help or any personal experience.

The C. aeneus orange stripe is a species that I have not bred. I actually believe that it along with other so called C. aeneus types are actually full species in their own right and are probably more related to C. melanotaenia than C. aeneuus.

I always start at the same parameters when working with a new species, in my case they are: -
water = pH 7.4 - dGH 8º - Temp 74º F.
Food = Tetra Tabimin - Pre-soaked Aquarian crumbled flaske - Brine shrimp - chopped earth worm.

Once I am satisfied that the fish are in breeding condition I will give a major water change (50%) and replace the water removed with water that is aged for 24 hours and is 10º F cooler, if this does not produce a result I will experiment, making only 0ne change at a time, this avoids any counter reaction. You could be lucky and get an early result, but what ever you do make notes, these can be refered to at a later date. I have done this for every species of Cory I have bred. (72 species).

Hi!

My good friend Charly Eon has bred that species. They eggs were laid on the bottom of the bare ( I suppose) tank. They were housed with some Corydoras barbatus and initially thought it was them to have just spawned. Several time after when he look at the fry and noticed it whole orange body colour he found out that the Corydoras cf aeneus Peru Orange strippes to have spawn.
I received 6 youngs of these from Charly ( thanks again) and I was absolutly amazed by their orange colour. The whole body when young has that orange sheen.

PS Charly is now in Manaus 'region but I am sure he will post about his experience with them when he'll get back...

Cheers
Yann
